- Don’t blame the President for the empty shelves and price increases. Rather, look to the cargo ships off the L.A. and LB ports. Right now, there “could be as many as half a million shipping containers on cargo ships” that are waiting their turns for unloading. And this is not something that will go away overnight. Most experts expect the shipping problems to last for months, and possibly years. (CBS)
- Keep your eyes peeled for beach updates. Although the oil spill off the coast of Huntington Beach is wreaking havoc with beaches and wetlands, currents are pulling it south. At this time, LB beaches are still open for swimming and boating. Should this change, the City will let you know. (@LongBeachCity)
- The LB Airport received its Level 2 Certification from the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program. It is a milestone in the facility’s move to creating a greener city. If you don’t think it’s a big deal, consider that the Mayor considers it as LB being “on the path to carbon neutrality.” (@LongBeachMayor)
- Politicians hopped on the women’s march bandwagon this last weekend. Present at the LB march were speakers including “Mayor Robert Garcia, Senator Lina Gonzales, Vice Mayor Rex Richardson, and California State Assembly member, Patrick O’ Donnell.” As the Mayor put so succinctly, “you don’t need to hear from another man today.” (Daily 49er)
- The businesses near LBCC that were able to hang in there are seeing a “significant improvement” since the campus partially reopened for fall. Affected primarily are Norse Way eateries such as Wolf’s Brew Coffee or the S.T. Noodle House. Other companies had an easier time staying afloat during COVID-19 because their products just never went out of style. (LBCC Viking)
