1. 15-Year-Old Student Hurt In Shooting Near Long Beach High School (patch.com) — Long Beach parents may be alarmed after a 15-year-old Poly High School student was wounded in an off-campus shooting near Long Beach Boulevard and 17th Street Thursday morning. The teen made it to campus, where staff gave initial care before paramedics took him to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, and police say the suspect fled as they continue investigating while school safety presence is increased.
   

2. Down on the Farm ... in Long Beach (beachcomber.news) — Long Beach’s long agricultural history is still alive in today’s urban farms, community gardens, and local growers that supply residents and restaurants. From Farm Lot 59 and Organic Harvest Gardens to Long Beach Mushrooms and community garden plots, locals can still grow, buy, and experience fresh, locally produced food without leaving the city.
   

3. Analyzing 2025 LB Homicides (beachcomber.news) — Long Beach saw 31 homicides in 2025, down from 38 in 2024, with most killings involving guns and victims and suspects largely in their teens to 30s. City Council approved a contract worth up to $170,000 to VIP Records and up to $235,000 for refurbishment and installation, tying the project to the city’s Grow Long Beach initiative and upcoming global events.
   

5. Long Beach invests $7.3M more into waterfront amphitheater, set to break ground this month (presstelegram.com) — Long Beach is putting an extra $7.3 million into its temporary waterfront amphitheater so construction can start this month along the shoreline. City leaders say the upgraded venue is key to replacing declining oil revenues, boosting tourism, and supporting local businesses, with a soft opening expected in spring and a full grand opening by summer.
