15-Year-Old Student Hurt In Shooting Near Long Beach High School
Long Beach police are investigating the incident, according to school officials.
LONG BEACH, CA — A student was injured in a shooting near a Long Beach high school Thursday morning, school officials say.
A Poly High School student was involved in an off-campus shooting near Long Beach Boulevard and 17th Street at about 8:18 a.m., a Long Beach Unified spokesperson said in a written statement to Patch.
Once the student arrived at school, staff provided the student with medical attention and called emergency responders, the spokesperson said, adding that staff also contacted the student's parents.

First responders transported the student to a hospital, according to the spokesperson.
Long Beach police said officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1700 block of Long Beach Boulevard about 8:25 a.m. and found evidence of a shooting but no victim.

Officers were later notified that a 15-year-old boy was being treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body, according to police. The suspect fled before officers arrived, police said.
"The incident occurred off campus, and the school remains safe," the spokesperson said. "LBUSD School Safety is maintaining an increased presence on campus as a precaution. Our thoughts are with the student and his family as they focus on recovery."
Long Beach police are investigating the incident, the spokesperson said.
