📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

1) On Thursday, there was a traffic fatality near PCH and Channel Drive. Reportedly, a “pedestrian was running across Pacific Coast Highway, outside a crosswalk” and was hit by a 2021 Toyota Corolla. The driver stayed on the scene, and “at this time, speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving are not believed to be contributing factors in the collision.” (Long Beach Police Department)

2) On Thursday afternoon, police officers responded to a fatal shooting in the alley on East La Reina Way. Just after noon, they found a 35-year-old man with several gunshot wounds. Officers say the victim was in the alley “when an unknown male suspect approached him and fired multiple shots at him.” (Long Beach Post)

3) Remember when we talked about the stolen credit card readers? We learned on Thursday that the Long Beach PD arrested a 27-year-old man as a suspect in the case. “After arresting him, Long Beach PD investigators seized all the credit card machines.” (Patch, CBS)

4) On Monday, Pet Food Express opened at 5265 East Second Street. “We are amazed at all the dogs and their owners walking down Second Street,” said the CEO, which explains why the business chose Belmont Shore for its second location. The store will host a proper grand opening celebration on November 5 and 6. (Long Beach Business Journal)

5) DeForest Park at 6255 DeForest Avenue has a new environmental education center! Officials were on hand for the ribbon cutting on Wednesday. It is slated to be the home of the Conservation Corps of Long Beach’s new River Rangers program. (City of Long Beach)
