Pedestrian Killed In Long Beach Collision

A pedestrian was killed in a collision early Tuesday morning in Long Beach.

LONG BEACH, CA — A pedestrian was killed in a traffic collision Tuesday in Long Beach.

Officers responded around at around 4 a.m. to Cherry Avenue and Curry Street following reports regarding a traffic collision involving a pedestrian, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

There, officers discovered a woman lying in the road suffering from critical injuries. Officers rendered aid to the woman prior to the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics.

Despite continued life-saving efforts, paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

She was later identified as Shalanda Young, 36, of Long Beach.

Police determined that a 2015 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Cherry Avenue, passing Curry Avenue, when the driver noticed a man in the roadway. In the driver's attempts to avoid the man, he struck Young, police said.

The driver was identified as a 30-year-old Norwalk man. He remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
