Pedestrian Struck By Car In Long Beach Dies In Hospital

A woman who was hit by a car in Long Beach died 10 days later in the hospital, according to police.

LONG BEACH, CA — A woman died in the hospital 10 days after she was hit by a car early one morning in Long Beach, police said.

On July 20 at about 5:21 a.m., police responded to a traffic collision in the area of 7th Street and Stanley Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle.

"Long Beach Fire Department Personnel arrived on scene and provided medical aid. Fire personnel transported the pedestrian to a local hospital in critical condition," the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.

LBPD was told the woman died on Tuesday. She was identified as 33-year-old Johnisha Brown of Long Beach.

According to investigators, a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling eastbound on 7th Street when it struck the woman near the intersection when she was crossing the street. Detectives said they believe the woman was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed, distracted and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.
