Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. The LB Department of Health and Human Services is offering COVID-19 boosters to residents who received both Pfizer vaccinations and meet specific criteria. These include being over the age of 65, having an underlying medical condition, or being at a high occupational risk of contracting COVID. If you qualify and received your second dose six months ago, head to MyTurn.ca.gov to make an appointment. (City of LB)
  2. When you drive up to Jordan High School at 6500 Atlantic Avenue, you’ll notice some beautifully redone crosswalks. They feature bright yellow stripes over panther paw prints. They are not only decorative, but easy to see from far away. (@LBPublicWorks)
  3. Hangry Belly at 3768 Long Beach Boulevard and Berlin Bistro at 420 East 4th Street feature dog-friendly menus. The new twist allows dog guardians to enjoy a meal alongside their pooches. (It helps if your dogs are well-behaved, which pretty much eliminates mine.) (CBS)
  4. Could the economic recovery be the cause of the next downturn? There are 65 ships waiting for a berth at the ports. At the same time, consumer spending is up. This creates the perfect storm for supply chain problems and businesses “losing millions of dollars as their products aren't able to be delivered.” And you know what else goes up when demand is up but supply goes down? Cost! (Turn to 23)
  5. Following the lead of the Long Beach Symphony, which is reopening, Music at the Point is also returning. Concerts take place at Grace First Presbyterian Church at 3955 North Studebaker Road. Kicking off the season on October 10 will be Tom Ranier and Dewey Erney. (Beachcomber)
