⏰ Daylight Saving Time Poll! πŸ€”
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 66% don’t like daylight saving time, while 33.5% do. Only 0.5% don’t care one way or the other.

πŸ“° Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. Two men driving on Gaviota Avenue toward 11th Street are lucky to be alive. On Monday, just after 6:30 p.m., β€œthey heard presumed gunfire coming from an unknown direction.” When they stopped and got out of their car, they saw it was struck by bullets. At this time, authorities have neither suspect nor motive information. (Long Beach Police Department)
  2. Long Beach’s Prism Boutique can’t catch a break. The small business at 406 Termino Avenue was vandalized about three weeks ago when the windows were shot out. On Valentine’s Day morning, it was broken into. According to the owner, someone got in via a glass door and crawled inside. After stealing a cash register, the suspect ran off. He’s described as β€œwearing a black hoodie, mask, and pants.” (Prism Boutique, Nextdoor)
  3. Earlier, we talked about the β€œBig Bang on the Bay” fireworks extravaganza ending up in federal court. On Monday, we learned that the Port of Long Beach, one of the event’s sponsors, is considering whether to pull its sponsorship. Even so, it tabled the discussion for two months when the member driving the change couldn’t get the needed support. One of the commissioners said the port should β€œstay focused on its mission to make port operations cleaner.” (Patch, Long Beach Post)
  4. Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken at 2580 Long Beach Boulevard is no more. While its original L.A. location is going strong, the Southern food eatery closed here, β€œwith one employee saying they were informed the space would be focusing on its Santa Ana location.” Insiders said Monday that it fell victim to the pandemic and β€œfluctuations” that are typical for expansions. (LongBeachIze)
  5. RightMealz at 420 East 4th Street opened on January 30 in what used to be the Berlin Bistro coffeehouse. Have a seat and enjoy grilled chicken lettuce wraps, down a garden detox smoothie, or pick up your "grab n go mealz." What makes this eatery shine is that it β€œserves food lovers who desire healthy food” that is as convenient as the prepared meal plans currently championed by a few competitors. (RightMealz, 2)
