Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. Rapper Tory Lanez recently visited Unite The People Inc. in LB. He donated $50,000, which “will help 50 families pay legal fees to bail their family members out of jail.” Lanez has been on the board of the organization for a couple of years. (TMZ)
  2. Are you afraid that the current health order will turn the Grand Prix into a logistical nightmare? Here’s what you can do to make the lines move faster. Ticket holders can “submit proof of vaccination ahead of time, or have proof handy and ready to present, with identification, on the first day they plan to attend the sporting event.” If you’re unvaccinated, know that organizers have set up a COVID-19 testing station in front of the Terrace Theater. (LB Post)
  3. Living in LB is “43% higher than the national average.” Groceries alone are 12% higher. And if you didn’t like this bit of information, it’s going to get worse. “In 2022, food-at-home prices are expected to increase between 1.5 and 2.5 percent, and food-away-from-home prices are expected to increase between 3.0 and 4.0 percent.” (PayScale, USDA)
  4. Home prices in Long Beach are up. If the last bit of news is making you think of moving, you’re in luck. Between May and June, prices went up 1.8%. Between June 2020 and June 2021, prices went up 17.6%. If your home is designated a starter, which here means a property under $720,000, it likely went up 19.4%. (Patch)
  5. The Museum of Latin American Art is hosting a 17-piece showcase of art by Gabriella Sanchez. Displays show the artist’s “concern about social and political topics such as race and gender.” You can see the artwork at 628 Alamitos Avenue, or view it from home via a virtual tour. (ABC 7)
