💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 20.8% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 25% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 29.2% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 25% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.
Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:
- The LBPD responded Friday morning to Recreation Park Golf Course, where they found a deceased individual. They “appear to have died by suicide.” “Police said the investigation is ongoing, and the coroner’s office will make any official determination on the cause of death.” (LB Post)
- A shoutout to Sister Simone Campbell! A member of L.A.’s Sisters of Social Service, she is from LB. Campbell is the founder of Nuns on the Bus and “the former executive director of NETWORK, a Catholic social justice organization.” The White House announced Friday that she will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. (Press-Telegram)
- The Heartwell All-Stars Gold softball team is going to the state championships! This group of 11 to 13-year-old girls needs some financial help to get there. “The average girl, to go to the state championship, usually spends about $1,000 to $1,200 for the tournament fees.” As of Friday, the team’s Go Fund Me had raised $2,327 of a needed $15,000. The championship is on July 8. (ABC)
- The Long Beach Animal Care Services center needs your help! The shelter is looking for volunteers who will “make a difference for a dog or cat by fostering an available, adoptable pet for up to fourteen days to make space for the incoming animals during the holiday.” The shelter is planning ahead for the pets that will panic and run away over the course of the (illegal) fireworks this weekend. (LB Animal Care Services)
- If you’ve been driving through the Broadway Corridor, you have undoubtedly noticed the Pride Flag crosswalks. If you haven’t seen them, you find them “on Broadway and Junipero, as well as on Newport Avenue, Cherry Avenue, Falcon Avenue and Orange Avenue.” (City of LB)
