Record High Set at Long Beach Airport on Christmas Day
The National Weather Service reported the record high temperature for Dec. 25 of 83 degrees at 1:53 p.m.

Christmas Day was warm in Long Beach. In fact, the high of 83 degrees measured at Long Beach Airport set a record.
The National Weather Service reported the record high temperature for Dec. 25 of 83 degrees at 1:53 p.m.
The high broke the previous record of 79 degrees set in 1972 and reached again in 1976.
Blame Santa Ana winds for the record temperature, and for an elevated wildfire threat.
The weather service forecast that "moderate Santa Ana winds will continue across the typical wind-prone locations of Los Angeles and Ventura counties" through Thursday evening and diminish overnight Friday.
"These northeast winds will continue to reinforce warm and very dry air across the region. The gusty northeast winds combined with widespread single-digit humidities and very dry fuels will result in critical fire weather conditions across much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties through early Friday morning, resulting in the extension of the red flag warnings.''
