🌱 RIP Janis Krantz + Loaded Gun Found In Poly HS Student’s Backpack
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Long Beach.

Hello, neighbors; today is Silence the Shame Day, which was first established by the Hip-Hop Professional Foundation in 2017! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Long Beach Daily.
We remember Janis Krantz, whom some call the “queen of kindness.” Also, why did a 17-year-old HS student bring a loaded gun to school? Finally, the City plans to dispose of the Queen Mary’s lifeboats.

Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:
- Long Beach lost one of its most remarkable residents on Saturday. Janis Krantz, a “businesswoman known as a community gem for her kindness and generosity in helping anyone in need, has died” at the age of 73. Customers knew her as the owner of J&L Jewelry at 1823 Ximeno Avenue. “There are few people who gave more of their time than Janis did to the community through her donations and volunteer work,” Mayor Robert Garcia said. (Press-Telegram)
- School officials at Long Beach Poly High School received a tip “that a student had brought a firearm on campus” Tuesday morning. A 17-year-old student was placed under arrest “on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm” “after campus officials found a loaded gun in his backpack.” The principal said that “the involved student will face appropriate and significant disciplinary consequences.” (Long Beach Post)
- The city received only two proposals for preserving the Queen Mary’s spare 20 lifeboats. As a result, officials decided to “dispose” of them. “It is unclear how exactly the city will dispose of the boats, which weigh around 12,000 pounds and are constructed with steel and wood” as well as coated in lead-based paint. (Long Beach Post)
- Are you celebrating Battle of Puebla Day today? There are several ways you can participate. The Bamboo Club plans on serving agave-tiki cocktails. At 2nd and PCH, there’ll be a performance of Mariachi Corazon de Maria. First Friday festivities will continue Cinco de Mayo themes. (Long Beach Local News)
- Mark your calendars! This Saturday, the inimitable Justin Rudd and his Community Action Team (CAT) are putting on their FREE Touch-A-Truck event at the Belmont Shore beach parking lot. Co-sponsored by Councilwoman Suzie Price (3rd District), it is a favorite of kids and their parents. “From dump trucks to police cars, fire trucks and city buses, as well as food trucks and private unique off-road trucks, over 100 vehicles are set in a safe and friendly environment with activities for all ages.” (Press-Telegram)
