Known affectionately as the City Hall gadfly and vocal critic of the Third District, Larry Goodhue has died at the age of 78. In other news, nine Long Beach high school students have the opportunity to intern with the fire department’s Marine Safety Bureau. Finally, the rising seawater is causing angst about its effects on the groundwater quality – particularly in the more densely-populated areas.

The Five News Headlines That Everyone’s Talking About

  1. Long-time City Hall critic Larry Goodhue has died at the age of 78. He added color and spice to the meetings as well as the day-to-day dealings in the Third District. (LB Press Telegram)
  2. The LB FD has selected nine interns from local high schools to spend the summer supporting the junior lifeguard program and other tasks of the Marine Safety Bureau. (@LBFD)
  3. Cal State Long Beach researchers are among those probing the effects of rising seawater on underground fresh water. The goal is to inform future environmental planning. However, the two-year study only garnered a $200,000 grant. (LB Post)
  4. The LB PD is asking for tips. A shooting in the 6400 block of Long Beach Blvd. left one man dead. There may be two suspects. Please contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Juan Carlos Reyes at (562) 570-7244 with information. (LB PD)
  5. A car-to-car shooting on the 91 Freeway left a victim shaken. The shooter’s car is identified as a gray Honda with tinted windows. (ABC 7)
