🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll!
We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. What do you think? So far, 59.4% think we need to learn to live with them, 38.6% want them gone, and 2% don’t care one way or the other.
📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
1) There was a shooting Thursday evening in the LA Riverbed near Long Beach Boulevard. Officers went to the 6500 block of Atlantic Avenue at 7:15 p.m. where they found an adult male with a gunshot wound. “Officers learned the victim was riding his bike on the LA Riverbed near Long Beach Boulevard when he was shot by a male adult suspect.” (LBPD)
2) Tacos Lionydas at Atherton and Clark recently made headlines when a man hurled racial insults at the people working there. However, on Wednesday, it made news because it got shut down “by a police-assisted Long Beach Health Department.” The vendor’s meat was confiscated. Officials said they received a complaint on Wednesday, and “found that the stand was in violation of many food and safety codes.” A second location at 2200 North Marwick Avenue is, so far, still open for business. (Patch, L.A. Taco, Long Beach Post)
3) Long Beach Duck Pond Update: The City said that the duck pond at El Dorado Park would be upgraded by November 2023. However, we learned on Thursday that there’s no plan for the 50-or-so birds residing there that can’t fly. It appears that the City didn’t apply for a permit to move the birds. The City says it put the company that works on the permits in contact with “permitted trained bird relocation specialists.” (Fox LA)
4) The Jackrabbits are getting a girls’ flag football team next month! The CIF Southern Section voted on Thursday to “to establish girls’ flag football as an official CIF-SS-wide sport in the Fall starting next school year.” Long Beach Poly is one of the pilot programs. (The562.org)
5) Mark your calendars! Cross out the proposed Queen Mary October reopening date. We learned on Thursday that “the city is still working on the ship and will soon release more details.” You may remember that the ship is currently undergoing a $5 million repair, which included the removal of 20 heavily damaged lifeboats.
