- On Wednesday, around 11 a.m., a man robbed two women at Cal State LB’s parking lot R2. He “used force to take groceries,” which injured one of the victims. CSULB Police urge anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-985-4101. (LB Post)
- The 7th Annual Dine Out Long Beach, Restaurant & Cocktail Week starts next week Friday and runs through the 28th. Participating restaurants offer special menus and are all over the city. A special menu option is the “Imaginary Item.” Advertised as “one of the most satisfying and nourishing items you’ll discover on the menu,” it is a $3 donation to Restaurants Care. This non-profit “provides relief, stability, and hope for struggling California restaurant workers.” (Dine Out Long Beach)
- Last month, we talked about the murder of a 30-year-old homeless man in the 1400 block of Long Beach Boulevard. At the time, investigators believed he got into an altercation “inside a building that appeared to have been converted into an encampment.” On Wednesday, the LBPD announced that officers arrested a 25-year-old LB resident as a suspect. They found him “in the area of 10th Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard” where he was also “found in possession of a loaded firearm and illegal narcotics.” (LBPD)
- The LBFD responded to the intersection of Stearns and Palo Verde on Wednesday after reports of a traffic collision. A vehicle was overturned, and its occupants couldn’t get out. First responders used the “jaws of life” and extricated the individuals from the car. (Long Beach Fire Department)
- Last Friday, the City released its tips for celebrating “Super Bowl Weekend Without Penalties.” Officials reminded residents that “post-game celebrations and activity should remain safe, lawful and fireworks-free.” “Celebratory” gunfire is also forbidden. Moreover, celebrants are reminded to “wear masks indoors and at large outdoor events.” Also, drive sober and do any grilling outside, away from any structure and trees with overhanging branches. (City of LB)
