Semi-Truck Driver Killed In Crash Near Long Beach Port

The crash happened Wednesday morning around 6:40 a.m. in the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue near the Port of Long Beach, authorities said.

LONG BEACH, CA β€” A semi-truck driver was killed in a crash near the Long Beach Port Wednesday morning, according to police.

Police say the driver got out of his truck around 6:40 a.m. in the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue and parked it along the south curb line.

He was standing next to the engine compartment when the driver of another semi-truck rear-ended the truck, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The impact of the crash caused the man to fall to the ground and he was run over by his own truck, according to the LBPD.

Despite efforts to save his life, the man died at the scene, police said. His identity was not immediately released as the Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office works to notify his family of the death.

The driver of the other semi-truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police, who said speed, distracted driving or impairment were not factors in the crash.
