  1. A LBUSD school safety officer shot a young woman near Millikan High School. The shooting took place a block away from the school at Palo Verde Avenue and East Spring Street. The incident involved a number of people, and the safety officer opened fire “when the woman jumped into the passenger seat of a car, and its driver tried to speed away.” (CBS)
  2. With the eviction moratorium ending, the city is looking for ways to prevent a mass eviction event. Besides that, it still has $46 million (out of $64 million) in unspent money in the coffers. This fact inspired council member Rex Richardson to add a line item on the October 5 council meeting agenda to “look at creating a single application that landlords could fill out on behalf of multiple tenants that may qualify for the program.” (LB Post)
  3. The LB Teams participating in the Relay for Life have raised more than $55,798. Sixteen volunteer teams walked for 24 hours. The fundraiser benefits the American Cancer Society. (LBReport)
  4. There’s been a lot of renaming going on in the city. The latest venue is the El Dorado Park West Senior Center. Council member Daryl Supernaw requested that it be named after former Long Beach Mayor Tom Clark. (LB Post)
  5. The LB City Clerk announced that one in four residents aren’t registered to vote. If this is you, officials urge you to register today. You don’t even have to go anywhere. Do it online from home in your jammies! (Long Beach City Clerk)
