2 Killed In Shooting, Suspect In Standoff With Long Beach Police

A man believed to be responsible for the deaths of two people has barricaded himself inside of a building, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — A suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting deaths of two people has barricaded himself inside a building in North Long Beach, according to police.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 11:15 a.m. in the 300 block of East 63rd Street. When police arrived they found a woman with gunshot wounds in her upper body and a man with unknown injuries.

Paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The injured man was determined dead at the scene.

According to police, a male suspect fled into a nearby building following the shootings.

Officers have established a perimeter in the area and the LBPD SWAT team is on scene attempting to negotiate with the suspect.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation is ongoing. Police advised the public to avoid the area during the investigation.
