📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

1) It’s the weekend, and the LBPD is busy. On Friday evening, officers went to the 4300 block of East Carson Street, where a man was seen firing shots into the air. On Saturday morning, there was a stabbing in the 1800 block of East Broadway. It was the already familiar scenario of an altercation that turned violent. Later that morning, the police went to the hospital to interview a shooting victim who refused to cooperate. (LBPD)

2) On Saturday morning, the LBFD fought a blaze at a “strip mall on the 5600 blk of Atlantic Ave.” Two firefighters were injured. (Long Beach Fire)

3) We finally know what’s going into the front portion of the former Polly’s Pies at 4680 East Los Coyotes Diagonal. The vacant Traffic Circle is said to become “an upscale convenience market.” We learned on Friday that the venue has been approved for selling alcohol for off-site consumption; however, it’s not going to be a liquor store. There’s no word yet who or what will take over the rear portion. (LB Business Journal)

4) The Camerata Singers are performing today, Sunday, at the LB Arena lobby at 5:30 p.m. The theme will be Peace Project VI with a focus on “Considering Matthew Shepard.” Jewels, the City’s iconic drag queen, will provide the narration. If you cannot make it today, free up your calendar for November 13, when the “Catalyst Chamber Ensemble, Camerata’s new all-professional group, will debut.” (The Pride LA)

5) Mark your calendars! You have an opportunity to chime in on zoning changes. Residents are invited to join a virtual open house on October 19 at 5:30 p.m. If you prefer in-person interaction, come to the LB Civic Chambers at 411 West Ocean Boulevard at 5 p.m. on November 3. (LB Development)
