📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:
1) There was a non-fatal shooting in the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue on Sunday just after noon. The victim “was unable to explain to officers what had happened.” Witnesses said they heard three gunshots. (Long Beach Post)
2) On Saturday, the Long Beach State women’s volleyball team won against Cal Poly. After the win at the Walter Pyramid, the team “stays in the Big West title hunt.” Outside hitter Morgan Chacon scored 14 kills, setter Zayna Meyer registered 42 assists, and “libero Dylan Dela Cruz continued her excellent season with 23 digs.” (The562.org)
3) AbilityFirst celebrated the grand reopening of its 3770 East Willow Street location on Sunday. The facility underwent a renovation that included “enhancements to the center’s programming areas, which allow AbilityFirst to bring its College to Career and Supported Employment programs to the Long Beach center.” (Long Beach Business Journal)
4) SSA Marine announced on Monday that it completed its project at the Long Beach Port. It converted “9 ZPMC diesel-electric 1,000 hp rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) to 100% grid-tied electric.” The upgrade took place on Pier J and is supposed to “eliminate consumption of diesel fuel by 225,000 gallons per year.” (Yahoo!finance)
5) Urban ethnographer and sociologist Liz Koslov presents “Life on a Changing Coast” on Wednesday at the Aquarium of the Pacific. You can attend the event for FREE, but you need to reserve a seat. It will go from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and focuses on “how climate change is reshaping our coasts and cities.” (Aquarium of the Pacific)
