1) Just after midnight on Saturday, officers from the Long Beach Police Department were told of shots fired near Santa Fe Avenue and 20th Street. Reportedly, a man got into an argument with another man. Then, “an unknown male adult suspect approached him and pointed a firearm in his direction.” (LBPD)

2) On Friday, a 65-year-old Long Beach City College student allegedly threatened staff members at the Pacific Coast campus. Police were called, and the student was arrested. The suspect “was booked for criminal threats with the intent to terrorize. His bail is set at $50,000.” (PD)

3) The Long Beach Pledge, which is the name of the City’s guaranteed income pilot program, begins in November. It “will provide $500 per month to 250 single-headed families with children who live at or below the poverty line for one year.” Initial participants will come from the 90813 ZIP code, which is on the lower west side. The monthly stipend is not considered taxable income. You can support the program by making a donation on the LongBeachPledge.org website. (Press-Telegram)
