🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll Results!

We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. We asked your opinion. You responded; 60.3% think we need to learn to live with them, 38.2% want them gone, and 1.5% don’t care one way or the other. Thank you for participating!

📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

1) There were no fatalities, but the LBPD sure was busy. On Saturday around 6:41 a.m., officers were called to the 3300 block of South Street. A man shot at another man, and both ran away. On Sunday, at 3:09 a.m., police dealt with a robbery attempt that escalated into a stabbing that took place around 10th Street and Termino Avenue. At 3:52 a.m., officers went to Anaheim Street and Deforest Avenue, where they found a male shooting victim who said “he was approached by two male adult suspects armed with firearms who began shooting at him.” (LBPD)

2) Pointing a rifle at cops is not a good idea. A case in point is the 55-year-old man who initiated a standoff on the 5200 block of East 25th Street on Sunday afternoon. Officers responded because the man pointed a firearm at someone else in the home, and then he pointed a rifle at officers. After about six hours of a standoff, SWAT rolled in and got the suspect out. “No one was hurt during the incident, though police seized a functional gun and a replica firearm.” (KTLA)

3) The Fire Department was busy, too. On Sunday, they were called to “a commercial building on Anaheim Street” in Cambodia Town, and extinguished the flames in less than half an hour. There is no word on the cause of the fire. (Long Beach Post)

4) Mixed martial arts is not for the faint of heart or those who get squeamish at the sight of blood. Having warned you, I’m here to tell you that Long Beach’s own A.J. McKee, who used to go to Poly HS, came out on top at Saturday’s Bellator 286. The event took place at the Long Beach Arena. McKee’s MMA record is now 20-1-0. (Long Beach Post Sports)

5) The Downtown Long Beach Alliance’s Economic Development Committee is giving away money, and you have until October 7 to apply. Applicants must be woman-owned businesses with fewer than 24 employees. Five recipients will be selected to receive money, business coaching, and more! (LB Business Journal)
