💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 23.2% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 17.9% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 37.5% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 21.4% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.

Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

  1. A shoutout to 12-year-old skater Julian Jeang-Agliardi! We learned on Tuesday that the LB skateboard phenom is “set to appear in the next season of ‘The Camp Woodward Show’ with professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler.” How did Jeang-Agliard get started? A man experiencing homelessness gave the then six-year-old a board. (LB Post)
  2. The city’s stormwater treatment plant, also known as LB-MUST, got a $4 million infusion from the State Water Resources Control Board on Tuesday. Combined with the city’s Measure W funds from 2018, it will finally push the 901 De Forest Avenue facility from a design phase “into full production.” (Press-Telegram)
  3. A 23-year-old man was convicted on Tuesday “of three counts each of murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.” The crime goes back to Halloween 2019, when he struck and killed a family of three “in the area of Country Club Drive and Los Cerritos Park Place.” His sentencing is scheduled for September 15. He is facing 45 years to life. (NBC)
  4. The world’s first LGBTQ+ mariachi band will be performing Sunday at the Fuego Restaurant between noon and 3 p.m. The Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles will be on hand during the facility’s Pride brunch. “This unique ensemble was created as a safe haven for mariachi musicians who identify as LGBTQ+ to come together and perform traditional Mexican regional music.” (Patch)
  5. Mark your calendars! The city will be “celebrating the installation of its first-ever beach access mats” on July 15 at 2 p.m. Scheduled at Granada Beach, the mats make “it possible for people of all abilities to more easily access Alamitos, Mother’s and Granada beaches this summer.” This is fantastic news for anyone going to the beach with “wheelchairs, beach access chairs, walkers and strollers.” Join the festivities on the sand “near Ocean Boulevard and Granada Avenue.” (City of LB)
