Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:
- The Silverado Park pool reopened Tuesday morning. Closed since December 20, you can once again sign up for lap swimming and swimming lessons on Saturdays. “Open swim fees range from $1-$3, and memberships fees range from $25-$65, depending on ages.” (LB Post)
- There was a murder on Sunday. At around 9 p.m., the PD arrived at the 3900 block of East Ocean Boulevard to break up a fight. A man suffered “multiple apparent stab wounds to the upper body.” If you have any information, please call LBPD Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Michael Hutchinson at (562) 570-7244. (LBPD)
- Former City Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, who had announced her run for mayor, “has also pulled papers to run for city attorney” on Tuesday. In the mayoral race, she would have to beat at least seven other candidates, some of which come heavily supported. If she runs for city attorney, so far, she would only have to beat assistant city attorney Dawn McIntosh. (Press-Telegram)
- If you’re a fan of short films, you simply have to head to the San Pedro International Film Festival that starts today. You can watch “this year’s Academy Awards-nominated short films in the animation, documentary and live-action categories.” The event takes place at the Warner Grand Theatre. (Daily Breeze)
- Cross-cultural cuisine is becoming more accessible. While the term “fusion” typically meant expensive meals, the term ‘cross-cultural’ is an invitation to enjoy the authentic in a way that would make mom proud. Tuesday’s lineup featured Thai Curry Pizza at 929 Redondo Avenue. “Sweet aromatic curry with a thick coconut milk base replaces the tomato sauce, taking on more of a white sauce role. Bean sprouts, bell pepper, onion, and sweet Thai basil complete the flavors of a Thai curry.” (The HiLo)
