West Coast rap legend Snoop Dogg shocked many by announcing he was done with smoking weed on Thursday.
LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach native and rap legend Snoop Dogg shocked the public Thursday by announcing he's done with smoking marijuana.
In a social media post, the rapper announced he spoke with his family before making the decision. He asked fans to respect his privacy at this time.
"After much consideration and conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke," he posted on Instagram.

Arguably the most notorious cannabis consumer in the world, Snoop Dogg has said he smoked the equivalent of 75 to 150 joints a day and employs a full-time blunt roller. He even owns two of his own cannabis brands "Leafs By Snoop," which was launched in 2015, and Death Row Cannabis, launched in 2022.
Comments on the post were a mixture of disbelief and support for the artist who has written more than 20 songs about marijuana, including the 2018 hit "Smoke Weed Everyday."

Some thanked him for having the courage to share his decision.
"If he can stop smoking, I know I can," one fan said.
"I had a pulmonary embolism last year and had to give up smoking as well; so more edibles for Edible Dee it is; but i know how hard this transition is especially for someone like you. Take all the time you need," one fan replied on Instagram.
"No more BBQ at uncle's ... the grill is off for the season," commented Rohan Marley, son of Bob Marley.
Others reacted with skepticism, guessing the announcement was a publicity stunt before the rapper released a new line of marijuana edibles. Still, others chastised him for making a career out of promoting drug use with dozens of songs and his own cannabis brand.
