Hey, people of Long Beach! Sylvia's here with today's Long Beach Daily.

No, you’re not high; it’ll be Snoop Dogg’s voice you hear on Sunday. Also, a friendly reminder that little kids need COVID tests before attending the Grand Prix. Finally, ABC gave money to LBPD.

Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Snoop Dogg will be on the NBC broadcast team for Sunday’s Acura Grand Prix. As you may know, this race marks the finale of the IndyCar season. It’ll be up to Snoop Dogg to open the telecast and preview the drivers. Don’t roll your eyes! The rapper actually has experience working as a sports commentator. (LB Post)
  2. The City reminds Grand Prix attendees to follow the rules this weekend. You already know that you need to show proof of full vaccination (two shots, unless you received the Johnson variety) or proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of attendance. However, did you also know that “Children ages 2 to 11 who are not yet eligible for vaccines are required to show a negative test?” (City of LB)
  3. California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) awarded the LBPD a $97,500 grant “to address alcohol-related harm in the community.” For the LBPD, this means dealing with problem locations that impact the safety of minors. “The funds will be used to reduce the number of alcoholic beverage sales to minors, obviously intoxicated patrons, illegal solicitations of alcohol, and other criminal activities such as the sale and possession of illegal drugs.” (LBPD)
  4. The City will host the inaugural Long Beach Youth Festival this Saturday. It is slated as part of the plan to “uplift the voices of youth ages 8-24 as decision makers and leaders.” There will be "performances, workshop breakout sessions, giveaways, resource fair, job fair" and FREE food! (City of LB)
  5. High School students have an opportunity to participate in the Music Center’s Spotlight Arts competition for a scholarship. The program “provides artistic development through arts experiences, auditions, feedback and mastery classes taught by professional artists and arts administrators.” In the past, Adam Lambert and Josh Groban were part of the competition. “The program is free to enter and open to artists of any skill level studying acting, ballet, classical instrument, classical voice, dance, jazz instrumental and non-classical voice.” You have until October 18 to get in your app! (The HiLo)
