📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
1) The LBPD investigated a stabbing in the 400 block of Cherry Avenue on Friday morning. A man said that “he was sleeping in the area when an unknown male suspect approached and stabbed him.” The wound was not fatal. (LBPD)
2) The Magnolia at 500 West Broadway hosted its opening reception on Wednesday. It features 142 residential units and first-floor retail space. There, leases have already been signed for Sugar Taco and Pawspace. “As of now, the building is 76% leased, with 71% of units occupied,” which means 33 units are still available. (LB Business Journal)
3) On Thursday, the Planning Commission approved a new apartment complex at 10th Street and Pine Avenue. It replaces Queen Beach Printers and will feature 69 units. Half of them will consist of four and five-bedroom spaces. This new building will not have to “set aside 11% of its units as affordable housing for 55 years.” (Long Beach Post)
4) Libre is hosting a neighborhood tenant council meeting on October 27 at 425 Atlantic Avenue. Running from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., it will explain renters’ rights in the city. There will be refreshments and Spanish interpretation. (Libre)
5) The Zombie Walk is coming to Shoreline Village on October 29! The tradition dates back to 2009, when organizers first encouraged people to dress up and walk, shuffle or lurch around the area. A party is also scheduled for 4 p.m. Children may trick-or-treat along Shoreline Village stores. (Press-Telegram)
