Will you celebrate Halloween this year? Tell us your plans! So far, 51.4% are turning off their porch lights, 34.7% will hand out candy, 5.6% are attending a party, and another 8.3% will accompany children to go trick-or-treating.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

1) The LBPD was called to the hospital on Wednesday evening. A woman had suffered stab wounds. She said that “she was walking in the area of Glendora Avenue and 2nd Street when she was physically confronted by a male adult suspect,” which resulted in a stabbing. (LBPD)

2) What are the security measures the Billie Jean King Main Library will implement to keep staff members and patrons safe? We learned on Thursday that City Hall reassigned two special security officers from its location to the library on weekdays. Weekends are covered by overtime shifts or private security firm services. In the future, there may also be “additional mental health outreach teams” in the area. (Press-Telegram)

3) Equality Plaza at Harvey Milk Park will honor eight inductees on Saturday. The people to be honored — Mayor Robert Garcia, Angela Madsen, Brad Duerre and Brad Miyasato, Jack Castiglione, Patricia Lamis, Robert (Dagoberto) Cano, and Tonya Martin — have done outstanding work for the LGBTQ+ community. If you want to join the festivities, be at 212 East 3rd Street at 1:30 p.m. (Press-Telegram)

4) Who’s taking the scooters that seem to be everywhere now? According to a report released on Thursday, “the three beachfront districts represented 95% of all scooter trips taken last year.” In North Long Beach, on the other hand, only about “0.01% of the city’s scooter trips” are taking place. Now scooter providers, which are currently Bird, Lime, Razor and VeoRide, will work with the city to find more ways to incentivize use. (LB Business Journal)

5) Head to the Pike Outlets on October 29 for a Halloween-themed event geared toward younger kids. On the Main Plaza, organizers will host FREE “character meet & greets including Maleficent and a magic wielding scarecrow stilt-walker” from noon to 3 p.m. An interactive jam session gets the kids dancing; and costumes are, of course, welcome!
