📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:
- A dispute between neighbors led to a stabbing on Sunday evening in the 6600 block of Hammond Avenue. The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) responded just before 5 a.m. and found a man with stab wounds. He explained he got into it with his neighbor, a 32-year-old man, who was promptly booked “for assault with a deadly weapon, non-firearm. Bail was set at $30,000.” (LBPD)
- A little doggie named Tofu was running without its human guardians in the Junipero Beach parking lot on Saturday, right around 6 p.m. Something spooked the pup, and she ran into the ocean and paddled 150 yards off the beach. However, a quick-thinking Long Beach Lifeguard came to the rescue and brought the little dog back. Tofu has since reunited with her humans. (Patch, ABC)
- The Long Beach rainy season is like an upset boss — storming back in, ready to say “and another thing!” And just like this boss, the rain is storming back in today, Tuesday, and also on Wednesday. The good news is that this storm isn’t as powerful as the last one. The bad news is that streams and rivers already at maximum capacity will likely flood. “Forecasters expect Long Beach to get 2.36 inches of rain between 5 p.m. Monday and 11 p.m. Wednesday.” (Long Beach Post)
- It’s Pi Day, and the Pie Bar at 450 Pine Avenue has big plans! Come in today between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., and if you’re one of the first 200 patrons, you’ll get a Key Lime Pie Shot for $3.14 . You’ll get pet pies for your four-legged companion and a white chocolate raspberry pie for yourself that’ll make you weep. By the way, you can park for FREE behind the Pie Bar — for two hours. (Patch)
- The city continues doubling down on its commitment to serve neighbors experiencing homelessness. On Saturday, it’ll host a drive-thru donation event at Veterans Stadium. Come to the parking lot on East Conant Street between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Stay in your car as you drop off things needed, including hygiene kits, pet care kits, gently used blankets and towels, and non-perishable food. Get a jump on spring-cleaning this year, and empty out your closet! (City of Long Beach)
