Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Stink update: The hydrogen sulfide smell may be around for a while longer. Wafting into LB from the Dominguez channel in Carson, the LAFD ran some tests and decided that “the area was not an immediate threat to life or safety.” Even so, you may experience headache and nausea, “but not long-term health issues.” There is no estimate when the stink will be gone. (NBC)
  2. The LBFD responded to a fire on the 900 block of LB Boulevard. This two-story Victorian home burned once already in March, which caused it to be boarded up. Today’s fire is put out and a person is in custody. (Long Beach Fire Department)
  3. The Southwest Airlines flight cancellations are affecting the LB Airport. So far, more than 24 flights were delayed or canceled. An airport spokesperson urges affected travelers to “contact Southwest about rebooking options.” (LB Post)
  4. The City of Long Beach is planning its next “Take Back Pharmacy” event. It is a project supported by the LBPD and DEA. On Saturday, 10-23, you are encouraged to bring expired pharmaceuticals to MemorialCare. This is a no-questions-asked drive-through event at 2801 Atlantic Avenue. (Long Beach City)
  5. Long Beach Recycles is hosting a recycling webinar. This virtual workshop is the holiday edition. It helps you “learn how you can reduce waste and save money his holiday season.” (Long Beach Recycles)
