Suspicious Item Leads to Bomb Scare at Long Beach Bus Stop

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Arson/Explosives Unit was summoned, nearby residences were evacuated and Atlantic Avenue was closed.

LONG BEACH, CA - A suspicious package at a bus stop prompted evacuations and a bomb squad response Sunday in Long Beach.

Officers were dispatched at about 12:35 p.m. to the area of Atlantic Avenue and 45th Street to investigate the item, said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Arson/Explosives Unit was summoned, nearby residences were evacuated and Atlantic Avenue was closed to through traffic between Del Amo Boulevard and San Antonio Drive, Arrona said.

No explosive material was found and by about 3:30 p.m. officers were preparing to reopen Atlantic Avenue, she said.
