📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
1) We learned on Wednesday about “a string of thefts” at two Nike stores. Thieves got away with an estimated $17,000 in merchandise. Thefts took place on October 9 and 10 at the Pike Outlets Nike location. Reportedly, “two women wearing Adidas sweaters and one man wearing a black hat and hoodie” grabbed merchandise off the shelves and walked out. The Nike store on 2nd Street and PCH was hit on October 18. For the latter theft, six suspects were counted. (Long Beach Post)
2) Meanwhile, the Long Beach Police Department reports that there has been a “series of burglary incidents where a suspect breaks into a business and steals the credit card reader.” Ten reported incidents stretch from September 4 to Wednesday of this week. The LBPD says that the stolen equipment is used in refund scams. (LBPD)
3) Long Beach Public Works announced on Wednesday that it “filled over 40,000 potholes in the last year.” While this is a great accomplishment, some residents were wondering when potholes in their areas would be filled. Notably, “21st Street from Santa Fe towards Fashion” is reportedly “a nightmare to drive on.” (LB Public Works)
4) Long Beach Poly’s boys’ water polo team had a great season. We learned on Wednesday that they finished the regular season with a 22-1 match against Millikan. A shoutout to Luke Cassiano, who “led the way with six goals, all in the first half!” (The562.org)
5) If you’re looking for work, clear your calendar for November 2. The city will hold its 22nd Annual Diversity Employment Day Career Fair at The Grand. The in-person event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A broad range of employers will be represented. (Patch)
