Good day, neighbors! Sylvia here with a brand-new copy of the Long Beach Daily.

There was a town hall with plenty of questions and few answers. Also, there’s going to be beer, y’all! Finally, the City is counting something again.

Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Stink update: It is still there and won’t go away. A City Hall meeting gave officials an earful regarding the smell likened to “rotten eggs and burning tires.” The city blames drying organic detritus in the Dominguez Channel. The county blames hydrogen sulfide. The result of the town hall? A bunch of four and five-letter organizations are working to “evaluate and monitor hydrogen sulfide levels and to mitigate health impacts.” In other words, close your windows. (ABC)
  2. There’s going to be a Halloween Hootennay put on by MOLAA! It’s billed as a spooky beer festival featuring more than 40 craft breweries. There’ll also be food and art to buy. What’s not to love? (The HiLo)
  3. Was the Count your favorite Sesame Street character? Then the City wants you to volunteer for its 14th annual bike and pedestrian count. Taking place on October 21 and 23, helpers “tally the number of bicyclists, pedestrians and electric scooter riders across key intersections in Long Beach.” (City of LB)
  4. There was a shooting near 12th Street and Cedar Avenue. A team of U.S. Marshals was trying to catch their guy, a fugitive with a Colorado arrest warrant. The bad guy didn’t want to go, drew a gun, and fired. Miraculously, “none of the officers or others were injured.” And yes, they got their guy. (LB Post)
  5. Do you want to be a lifeguard? LB is hiring! Many lifeguards also double as swim instructors at local pools. (Government Jobs)
