Vaccine Mandate + LBUSD Starts Aug 31 + License, Tax, Fee Grant

Hey, people of Long Beach! Sylvia here with the latest issue of the Long Beach Daily.

If you are a LB health care worker, you will have to show proof of vaccination on August 9. In contrast, the LBUSD won’t require vaccinations or social distancing when classes start on August 31. Finally, independent restaurants that survived the pandemic may qualify for a business license tax and fee reimbursement.

Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. LB health workers will be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Those who refuse must submit to twice-a-week testing. The rule takes effect August 9. There’s no word yet if the City will also ask the same of city workers. (LB Post)
  2. LB School Superintendent Dr. Jill Baker (Ed. D) announced that in-person school will begin on August 31. She did not mention optional online classes, which are available in neighboring school districts. Also, there won’t be COVID testing or social distancing. (LBReport)
  3. The City announced that it will accept applications for its Business License Tax and Fee Grant. Local, independent restaurants may apply for reimbursement of business license taxes, parking area assessments, health permit fees, fire permit fees, and late payment fees. (City of LB)
  4. The Jeffery Dempsey Jr. Memorial Skate Jam/Competition returns to Houghton Skate Park on August 7. It will be the tenth annual occasion. (Skate World)
  5. The Road Racing Drivers Club will resume its annual tradition of hosting a celebratory dinner at the LB Hilton. This year marks 12 years since the Grand Prix tradition started, and the guest of honor will be four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Rick Mears. (Racer)
