In the graphic video, the man walks into the frame with the slack dog hanging over his shoulder. The Long Beach Police Department said in a statement Monday afternoon that they were aware of the incident and had patrol officers respond to the area to take a report, as nobody had previously reported what had happened.

It's unclear if police have found the man or the dog in the video. The LBPD said Long Beach Animal Care Services is also investigating to ensure the welfare of the dog.

"Animal abuse is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our community," The LBPD said in a statement on X. "The investigation is ongoing, and we encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to contact non-emergency dispatch at 562-435-6711."
