LONG BEACH, CA β€” Who gets paid the most to work in Long Beach? According to a report released Wednesday by the California Controller's Office, the 10 highest-paid officials work in public safety.

The agency published its 2024 "Government Compensation in California" analysis, which shows how taxpayer funds were spent in the previous year and who received what for being on the public payroll.

"This report is a vital tool in promoting fiscal transparency and accountability in local government," Controller Malia Cohen said. "Californians deserve to know how public funds are being spent and who is being paid with their tax dollars."

The individual who received the most significant income in Long Beach was an unnamed Chief Executive Officer who works in the city's Harbor Department. The individual received a total of $472,286 in wages last year.

The other highest-paid employees were in the Police and Fire departments, followed by the city manager.

In 2023, the City Manager took the No. 10 spot, making $361,973. Although his wages increased to $379,319 in 2024, he's now ranked No. 13.

As for elected officials, an unnamed city attorney made $366,786 in 2024. The mayor made $188,309. Meanwhile, no city council member made more than $51,188.

Long Beach maintained nearly 7,100 government positions in 2024, paying out $664,748,578 in wages, according to the California Controller's Office.
