🦃 Thanksgiving Poll!
Thanksgiving is on November 24th. How do you celebrate? So far, 43.8% celebrate a big meal as a family tradition, while 28.8% don’t celebrate and treat it like any other day. In a smaller group, 1.4% don’t celebrate because they feel it glorifies the conquest of Native Americans; however, 26% choose to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving out of gratitude.

📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

1) On Monday, there was a car crash at Wardlow Road and Bellflower Boulevard. The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) was on the scene just after 12:32 p.m., found the wreck, saw two women trapped, and used the Jaws of Life to cut them out of the car. Everyone made it out alive. (Long Beach Post)

2) A 71-year-old man died on Sunday after being the victim of a hit-and-run at Walnut Avenue and Anaheim Street on November 4. A white sedan struck him in a crosswalk at around 6:20 a.m. Police are searching for the driver, and if you have any information, please drop a dime to Long Beach Police Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355. (Biking LA)

3) How is the Wrigley Greenbelt project coming along? The city said on Monday that it “will soon have a decomposed granite pedestrian path, dry stream beds, & more.” Besides that, this month, workers will prepare the location with “a weed abatement program” to begin planting. The project is on track to finish early in 2023. (Long Beach Public Works)

4) The Long Beach Rescue Mission will close its thrift store at 702 West Anaheim Street on December 1. The organization sold the building “to raise money to increase the agency’s shelter space.” Sometime next year, the “Hosanna House shelter for men with disabilities” will open; also, there is a plan to expand the Lydia House by 50 beds. (Press-Telegram)

5) On Monday, two staff members of the YMCA of San Diego County started to walk to the Mexican border. They started in Long Beach at the YMCA Fairfield Family Branch at 9 a.m. On their five-day trek, they are taking opportunities to talk at community gatherings about runaways and homeless youths.
