Updated: Woman Was Brandishing Replica Handgun When Shot by Police
Police said mental health experts tried for about an hour to get the woman to surrender prior to the shooting. It was the 19th officer-involved shooting in Long Beach this year.

Police said Sunday a woman who was wounded by officers in Long Beach during a 2-1/2 hour standoff was actually holding a black semi-automatic type Beretta replica firearm.
Adeline Arroyo, 32 was booked for displaying a replica firearm in the presence of officers and remained today at an area hospital in serious but stable condition, according to a department statement.
Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department said police were dispatched at 9:47 a.m Saturday to Third Street and Long Beach Boulevard regarding "a person with a gun'' call. A SWAT team was dispatched to the location along with a mental evaluation team, she said.
During the ensuing 2-1/2 hour standoff, negotiators speaking English and Spanish tried to get the woman to surrender; but an officer-involved shooting occurred when she brandished the replica firearm, according to Arrona.
Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell told reporters at the scene that police mental health experts tried for about an hour to get the woman to surrender prior to the shooting.
Arrona said she did not know where or how many times the woman was struck.
The shooting was captured on video and later broadcast by ABC7.
It was the 19th officer-involved shooting in Long Beach this year, Arrona said. Five of those were fatal, she said. There were nine officer-involved shootings in Long Beach last year, she said.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, according to the department.
