🎃 Halloween Poll!
Will you celebrate Halloween this year? Tell us your plans! So far, 50.6% are turning off their porch lights, 37.3% will hand out candy, 4.8% are attending a party, and another 7.2% will accompany children to go trick-or-treating.
📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
1) Police officers conducted a traffic stop at Long Beach Boulevard and 45th Street and pulled over a 30-year-old Lakewood resident. In his car, they found an unregistered, loaded firearm. The suspect was booked “on carrying a loaded firearm in public under specific circumstances, carrying a loaded firearm – not registered owner, and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. Bail was set at $35,000.” (LBPD)
2) Migratory birds sometimes get lost, and it appears that a Wood Warbler did precisely that. We learned on Monday that a Wood Warbler was seen in Willow Springs Park. You may see it for yourself if you head to 2745 Orange Avenue and pay attention to the birds in and around the cottonwood, willow and sycamore trees. It's the first time this bird has been seen in the U.S. outside of Alaska, where some birds have stopped on their migration to Africa. (Subscription/Press-Telegram)
3) Hamid Torabzadeh won recognition for his leadership of the Los Angeles READYteens Program! The teen, a Poly HS graduate, is a recipient of the Brower Youth Awards, which recognize “outstanding youth leaders.” (LB Post)
4) Do you remember when the city told businesses they could defer paying businesses license taxes and fees? We learned on Wednesday that the city expects to restart business tax and fee collection in 2023’s first quarter. Business owners have to pay in full or set up a payment plan. (LB Business Journal)
5) Spend your Friday celebrating La Traviata’s 25th anniversary. The Italian restaurant at 301 Cedar Avenue will host a “Black & Silver Masquerade party from 5 to 11 p.m.” This eatery is an insider tip among wine connoisseurs. The owner credits “the Willmore Building’s board (his landlord), along with financial help from the government” for being able to stay in business during the pandemic. (Subscription/Press-Telegram)
