SANTA MONICA, CA — A portion of the westbound 10 Freeway was shut down in Santa Monica Tuesday afternoon as evacuations from the nearby Palisades Fire have worsened traffic in what is already one the Southland's most congested areas.

The westbound 10 Freeway remained shut down at Lincoln Boulevard Wednesday morning, city officials said.

The Palisades Fire broke out in the far western limits of the city of Los Angeles Tuesday morning. Within an hour, it had grown to 200 acres and forced residents out of their homes.
