16-Year-Old Stabbed To Death At Palms LAPD-Benefit Carnival Identified

The teenager who was stabbed at an event that raised money for the LAPD has been identified by authorities.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The 16-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed during a police fundraising carnival in Palms was has been publicly identified.

The stabbing was reported at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday near Venice Boulevard and Keystone Avenue. The boy had been in a fight with several other teens before being stabbed by the suspect, who was described as a 15-to-20-year-old male, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect fled on foot and the teen was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe the attack was gang related, according to the LAPD.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner on Wednesday identified the victim as Edel Quintero.

The stabbing occurred on the second day of the three-day Palms Community Weekend and Summer Carnival, co-hosted by the Pacific Area Boosters Association, the Motor Avenue Association and City Council District 5, which is represented by Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky.

The boosters group supports the LAPD's Pacific Division. Money raised at the carnival supported the LAPD Pacific Cadet/Junior Cadet programs and the needs of the Pacific Division officers and station, organizers said.

There was a large police presence at the event, but LAPD Officer Christian Faulkner told CBS Los Angeles "there are windows of opportunity, unfortunately, that suspects can find and we can only cover so much of an area."
