2 Dead After Bus Crash In Downtown LA: Police

A van fleeing police collided with a bus, leaving two dead and two injured, according to authorities.

LOS ANGELES — Two people died and two were injured after a minivan fleeing police collided with a Metro bus early Sunday in downtown, according to authorities.

The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m., authorities said. Police saw a gun thrown from a green minivan in the area of South Central Avenue and Interstate 10, according to authorities. The vehicle fled police, who pursued it for a few minutes until the van and bus collided in the 100 block of East 17th Street, authorities said.

One van passenger died at the scene and another died at a hospital, according to police, who said the van’s driver and a third passenger were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The bus driver — who was the only person on the bus — declined treatment, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The handgun was recovered and no one had been arrested as of Sunday morning, police said.
