2nd 3-Year-Old Twin Dies As Murder Investigation Into Mother Continues: LAPD

The second 3-year-old twin boy who was hospitalized last week died over the weekend as their mother faces a murder charge, police said.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The second 3-year-old twin from Canoga Park who was brought to a hospital last week has died, police said over the weekend, as the investigation into their mother's role in their possible fatal poisoning or overdose continues.

The boys' mother, Jestice James, 22, was arrested on a charge of murder after the boys were found unresponsive on the 20000 block of Sherman Way Thursday morning. "Preliminary investigation revealed that the children had ingested, or been exposed to, an unknown substance,"the Los Angeles Police Department said.

LA Fire Department paramedics also responded to the scene, initiated life-saving measures and transported both children to a local hospital. One of the twins was pronounced dead at the hospital, the other was in critical condition on Friday, the LAPD said.

James was charged Monday with two counts each of murder and child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death, according to her criminal complaint. She's set to be arraigned Tuesday.

A witness told KTLA that the parents were hysterical as a neighbor attempted to perform CPR on the boys.

“I came in, there’s a kid sitting on the table, and I started giving him CPR, and my friend says, ‘Oh my God, there’s another one,’” neighbor Chris Burko said.

James and other residents of the home were transported to the LAPD Topanga Community Police Station for questioning. The other residents are not being investigated further, though the investigation into James' involvement in the boys' death is ongoing, police said Friday.

James was being held on $2 million bail, the LAPD said Friday.
