The ticket’s base prize was about $2.55 million but doubled to $5.1 million with a multiplier of 2.

This payout ranks among California’s highest second-place wins in the past decade - higher than a $4.6 million prize sold in Tarzana earlier this year, KTLA reported.

Only a handful of second-place wins in the state have been higher than $5 million, KTLA said. The highest second-place win came in 2022 with a $7.7 million prize.

Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. The estimated jackpot for Tuesday’s upcoming drawing is $60 million.
