📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a structure fire at 5555 West Harold Way on Thursday morning. The building is a “70-unit 4-story (3 occupied floors over parking) center hallway style apartment building, with an open central courtyard.” The fire was in a second-floor unit at the rear of the structure. “In battling the flames, firefighters discovered one adult male deceased within the involved apartment.” (LAFD)
  2. On Wednesday afternoon, a young teen was shot and stabbed at the intersection of 7th and Flower streets. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) "established a perimeter and sought to close an alley at Wilshire Boulevard and Lebanon Street." The suspect is reportedly a male Hispanic. "Authorities initially thought there may be multiple juvenile suspects, and multiple media outlets reported that one suspect was detained but escaped handcuffs." This was incorrect. (Patch)
  3. What’s happening with the sizable sinkhole that opened up on Iverson Road? As of Thursday, the road is still closed. At this time, the sinkhole is estimated to be “about 40 feet deep (and) extends across both lanes on the road near the freeway overpass.” The Los Angeles City Council set aside $500,000 to repair the street. (NBC)
  4. Construction is planned at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street. We learned last week that the new 2225 Sunset Boulevard will have “176 studio, one-, two-, three-, four-, and five-bedroom apartments on an amorphous site which also fronts on Mohawk and Elsinore Streets.” Eighteen of the units will be set aside as affordable housing “at the extremely low-income level.” It’ll take a little longer than two years to finish the project. (L.A. Urbanize)
  5. Which is the latest “it” bar in L.A.? Last week, insiders declared it to be El Prado at 1805 Sunset Boulevard. What did they like? “How patrons play chess, drink natural wine with ‘nepo babies’ -- aka ‘nepotism babies’ -- and order hot dogs under a disco ball.” Go figure. (The Eastsider L.A.)
