- A woman scared off a sexual assailant in her apartment building in Barrington Plaza on Thursday evening. She says “there appears to be faulty security equipment because when she asked about surveillance video, there wasn't any.” In January 2020, residents sued the apartment building over “inadequate fire equipment.” (ABC)
- Sheriff Alex Villanueva was on hand for Sunday’s 8th annual Heroes Ride. Put on by Star Post 309 and the LA County Professional Peace Officers Association, the event took place at the Hollywood Bowl. It “is a charity motorcycle ride to support families of fallen peace officers and military veterans.” (Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department)
- L.A. students left their classrooms Friday and demonstrated at City Hall “for a global day of climate action.” They asked the CA Teachers Association to support SB 1173, which would “end much of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System fossil fuel investments.” The teachers’ retirement board opposed the legislation. (Spectrum News 1)
- On March 14, there was a fatal structure fire in Highland Park. This Saturday, Fire Station 12 “canvassed the neighborhood to provide (and install) residents with new smoke alarms and carbon monoxide” detectors. “This particular canvass reached 29 residents with 31 smoke and 10 CO alarms installed.” (Los Angeles Fire Department)
- SoCal grocery store workers have voted to authorize a strike, the union announced Sunday. “The possible walkout would involve grocery clerks, meat cutters, pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians represented by seven locals of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union.” The next meeting between the stores and union representatives is scheduled for Wednesday.
