- We learned Friday that Prawn at the Grand Central Market is no more. After five years, the eatery officially closed. Scuttlebutt suggests that Broad Street Oyster will take over the space. (L.A. Eater)
- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, L.A. County is “still considered to have substantial transmission” of COVID-19. On Thursday, we learned that officials are keeping a close eye on infections related to the BA.2 omicron subvariant, which is currently in the Northeast U.S. News outlets have dubbed it “stealth omicron.” the director of the County Department of Public Health “expects BA.2 to become dominant in L.A., but doesn’t know how quickly that will happen.” (LAist)
- On Tuesday, the surviving family of a man who died during a traffic stop conducted by the CHP “called for the Los Angeles district attorney to file criminal charges against the officers.” The suit alleges “excessive force, negligence, assault and battery, conspiracy, wrongful death, violations of civil rights and failure to provide medical care.” This case dates back to March 31, 2020. - On Thursday, a judge ruled in favor of letting former L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson to become the “temporary replacement for City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas, who was suspended from service following his indictment on federal corruption charges.” Doing so lifted the injunction that this judge put in place on February 24. (ABC)
