Brush Fire Burns Near Castaic Lake

It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the blaze that burned 14 acres in Castaic Tuesday night.

CASTAIC, CA — Fire crews were responding to a brush fire this evening in Castaic that burned approximately 14 acres of vegetation.

Firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire near Lake Hughes Road at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Angeles National Forest.

The flames were burning at a moderate speed and were moving toward Castaic Lake.

The fire had grown to 14 acres by 9:45 p.m., but firefighters were making "good progress" extinguishing the flames and there was a "low threat to the community," the ANF tweeted.

Lake Hughes Road was closed east of Castaic.

No injuries were immediately reported, and it is unclear what sparked the blaze.
