LOS ANGELES, CA — As the weekend wraps up, we've rounded up all the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Southern California’s top stories, Golden State residents should know that Gov. Gavin Newsom just agreed to release $1 billion in homelessness funding.

Earlier this month, he put the funding on pause until cities and counties could come up with more robust plans, calling the submitted plans "simply unacceptable" as they would have collectively reduced the state’s homeless population by just 2 percent over four years. What's more, Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis declared Sunday Transgender Remembrance Day less than 24 hours after a gunman in Colorado opened fire in an LGBTQ club, killing five people and injuring at least 25 others.

"As Colorado and the nation mourn yet another horrific attack targeting the LGBTQ community, today is a tragic reminder of the unacceptable violence, discrimination, and structural barriers that members of the LGBTQ community still face on a regular basis, despite our progress towards inclusion and equality," Kounalakis said.

Leaders, police departments and other figures around California released statements about the mass shooting.

"Hate is taught. This is what happens when it goes unchecked. We have to continue to push back," Newsom tweeted. "Our hearts are with Colorado and all those impacted by this terrible tragedy.
