California Gov. Jerry Brown Will Vote For Hillary Clinton

Brown, in an open letter, made his pick for the pivotal June 7 Democratic primary.

California Gov. Jerry Brown will cast his vote for Hillary Clinton in the state's June 7 primary over Bernie Sanders, saying that choosing the former Secretary of State "is the only path forward to win the presidency and stop the dangerous candidacy of Donald Trump."

Brown made the endorsement in an open letter posted on his website.

He said he was "deeply impressed with how well Bernie Sanders has done" and that Sanders has "driven home the message that the top one percent has unfairly captured way too much of America’s wealth."

Brown said that Clinton's experience puts her over the top and wants the party to look to the general election.

"The general election has already begun," he said. "Hillary Clinton, with her long experience, especially as Secretary of State, has a firm grasp of the issues and will be prepared to lead our country on day one," he wrote.

Brown also hit Trump for his policy proposals.

"The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has called climate change a “hoax” and said he will tear up the Paris Climate Agreement," Brown wrote. "He has promised to deport millions of immigrants and ominously suggested that other countries may need the nuclear bomb. He has also pledged to pack the Supreme Court with only those who please the extreme right."

The show of support is the latest boon for Clinton, who leads Sanders by 8 points in the latest RealClearPolitics average of state polling. Anything but a huge, blowout win by Sanders in California effectively clinches the Democratic nomination for Clinton.

Clinton holds a pledged delegate lead of 1,769 to 1,499 over Sanders. She also holds a massive 541 to 43 superdelegate lead over Sanders. Brown himself is a superdelegate, so you can add one more to that total.

The Vermont Senator, though, took some inspiration last night from the Golden State Warriors, a team that he called a California comeback story.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
